Celebrating 5 Years of Auburn Uniforms
July 8, 2013
That’s the date of the first post on the Auburn Uniform Database site. The birth of this entire endeavor.
Sunday marks the 5th birthday of the AUD. Each year has seen continued growth and I truly couldn’t be me thankful.
To celebrate the 5th anniversary, you will see many changes. The biggest change is to the site itself. It is no longer hosted on Blogger/Blogspot. It is now a much more attractive site and easier to use site. Ideas are now implemented that weren’t possible before.
There’s also a new logo. No milestone has gone uncelebrated here. Five years is a big deal. And a logo was warranted for that.
The Auburn Uniform Database was originally designed as the Auburn Basketball Uniform Database. This was coming off a basketball season with brand new uniforms, and I was frustrated with the lack of easily-accessible images and videos of earlier basketball seasons. Take the early 2000s for example. There are so few photos available, and even then, they were poorly dated or poor quality. And that includes a trip to the NCAA Tournament! Auburn even wore two different versions of the same jersey design in back-to-back years, but you wouldn’t have been able to figure that out with the available resources.
From there, the site just continued to evolve. I had compiled a comprehensive list of college football uniform changes for other sites, and moved it over here for the 2013 season. That football season also saw the first football uniform research project posted here. That post alone convinced me to move away from the basketball-only model.
It wouldn’t take long, but the AUD soon added more features and projects. Multiple programs are now represented on the site, specifically in the yearly uniform sections. The individual uniform trackers are now made for seven sports. In addition to uniforms, this site has records of field designs from Jordan-Hare Stadium and the many bowl games Auburn has played in. There is also basketball court designs recorded here.
The more the site grows, the better it becomes at being a resource for all of Auburn’s aesthetic history on the athletic fields.
If you like the new anniversary logo, please consider purchasing one of the new t-shirts available! This design (and others) can also be purchased on coffee mugs, travel cups, pillows, hoodies, and a lot more. Check out the TeePublic store for all the details.
Thank you, again, to everyone that has ever supported this website. This site would be nothing without an audience.
I hope that you will continue to read the content released on the Auburn Uniform Database and continue to use this site as the resource it was intended for.
With the move to the new website, there are no doubt some broken links and missing images throughout. Those will be fixed so that this entire site is up to my standard of usability. If you happen to see any of these issues, please let me know. Also, any suggestions on how to better display a few of the pages is appreciated.
