Auburn Softball Uniform History

The initial seasons of Auburn Softball saw the team sporting shorts, a traditional look for softball teams at the time. Auburn would also mix in standard baseball pants early on, creating opposite approaches that could be worn for any game. The shorts didn’t last long, getting phased out after the 2001 season.

The program’s Russell era leaned into a distinct look of its own — oversized script wordmarks, drop-shadow lettering, Clarendon-style numerals, and tiger-striped collars borrowed from both baseball and basketball uniform history. Auburn moved to Under Armour in 2007, starting with simpler designs before turning more adventurous in 2009.

Auburn Softball reached new heights in the mid-2010s, earning the program’s first Women’s College World Series appearance in 2015 and returning in 2016 to reach the championship series, falling in a decisive Game three.

Uniform-wise, Auburn has swung between restrained and bold ever since. Pinstriped uniforms entered the rotation in 2018. Dark grey road uniforms first appeared in 2016 and 2017 before being revived in 2023, the same year a script Auburn wordmark debuted on the uniform. The script mark returned in 2026 alongside Auburn’s new Nike navy uniforms with orange pinstripes. Today, the program mixes and matches across its full rotation to create as many combinations as possible each season, with 2025 setting the current record at 21 different combos worn in a single year.
