As the world of sports constantly evolves, one aspect that never fails to captivate fans is the art of their team’s uniforms.
The Auburn Uniform Database has been at the forefront of documenting and celebrating the aesthetic journey and history of Auburn University’s athletic uniforms for the past decade. Today, we commemorate the 10th anniversary of this website, paying tribute to the vast collection of designs that have graced the fields and courts, leaving an indelible mark on Auburn’s legacy.
It all started 10 years ago. And I couldn’t be prouder of where things have gone over this last decade.
History of the AUD
The concept of this site started back in the summer of 2013 as the Auburn Basketball Uniform Database. Coming into the summer following my freshman year at Auburn, I felt the need for some sort of a project to stay busy.
With the Men’s Basketball team introducing new uniforms for the 2012-13 season, I wanted to know more about what the program had previously worn. For some reason, the late 1990s and early 2000s were difficult to pin down quality photographs that were accurately dated. It was important to me to visualize the evolution of the team’s uniforms but it proved difficult. There were resources for the professional league’s uniforms, but why not Auburn?
That side summer project quickly grew into more than just basketball. As the 2013 season progressed, there were new details and tidbits to discover, uncover, and better explain to the general fans. Why did Auburn’s pant stripes come to a point at the knee? No, it wasn’t a conscious design choice – it was an afterthought of the new template. Those were the kind of stories that I wanted to cover and better explain to others.
From there, the AUD continued to grow, expanding to other sports on campus. Today, the site covers eight Auburn varsity programs and the marching band. All combined, there is over 200 seasons worth of Auburn Athletic uniforms that have been researched, cataloged, and accurately recreated.
A Hub of Athletic Aesthetic
Since its launch a decade ago, the Auburn Uniform Database has become a treasure trove for fans, historians, and uniform enthusiasts alike. This extensive archive serves as a visual reference for many of the athletic teams that have proudly represented Auburn University. From football and basketball to soccer and volleyball, the Auburn Uniform Database has chronicled the diverse array of uniforms that have adorned Auburn athletes, showcasing the ever-evolving trends, design choices, and minute details.
Because every detail matters.
Whether it’s the difference in uniform templates, sublimated details in the numbers, the field designs from bowl games, or the time Auburn possibly tested out a tiger head helmet decal, the AUD has it covered. The hope is that one could spend hours diving into the stories and archives like I have researching them.
Capturing the Essence of Tradition
Auburn University holds a rich history and tradition, and its athletic uniforms play a vital role in preserving and promoting these cherished values. The Auburn Uniform Database has diligently cataloged the evolution of these uniforms, offering a unique window into the past. From the classic simplicity of the early years to the innovative modern designs, the AUD showcases the progression of Auburn’s visual identity.
Tradition doesn’t always mean doing the same thing over and over again. And with the visuals and documentation available on this site, that’s evident. From the green football jerseys in the 1930s to the speed limit sign numerals on the helmets in the 1950s and 1960s, there’s much to learn about Auburn’s uniforms and how we got to the designs we know and cherish today.
The Auburn Uniform Database ensures that every design and every detail is carefully documented and archived. Explore well over 200 seasons worth of uniforms across all the athletic programs featured on this website.
A Community of Passionate Fans
The Auburn Uniform Database has fostered a vibrant community of devoted fans and uniform aficionados. Social media platforms and online forums have enabled enthusiasts to share their thoughts, debates, and fond memories associated with Auburn’s uniforms. The Auburn Uniform Database has catalyzed these discussions, connecting fans and fueling their passion for Auburn athletics.
Over the years, this site has garnered millions of views and has been featured in multiple feature publications and outlets. And it’s all thanks to you reading and supporting the work that goes into this.
I’ve always said that I do this work because I enjoy it, first and foremost. But if a single person finds any interest in it besides me, that’s a bonus. The support has continued to grow since day one and I’m incredibly thankful to you all.
